Looking for a MetaHuman alternative? Meet MetaPerson
MetaHuman is built for cinematic digital humans. If you need lightweight 3D avatars your users can create from a selfie — inside your own app, on any platform — MetaPerson by Avatar SDK is built exactly for that: embeddable avatar creator, Cloud API, and SDKs for Unity, Unreal, Web, iOS and Android.
Selfie-to-avatar in seconds · GLB/FBX export · Cloud API or on-premise
Why teams look for an alternative
Great for cinematics — heavy for apps
MetaHuman Creator produces stunning, film-grade digital humans — but avatars are designed by hand (or from a 3D scan with Mesh to MetaHuman), the rigs are heavy for mobile and web, there is no public API to generate avatars, and the creator tool can’t be embedded into your product for end users. MetaPerson takes the opposite approach: your users take a selfie and get a recognizable, game-ready 3D avatar in seconds — in your app, on your platforms, at scale.

FAQ
MetaHuman alternative — common questions
Is MetaHuman really free?
Mostly, yes — MetaHuman is free under the Unreal Engine EULA for projects below $1M in revenue; above that, Unreal seat licensing applies. MetaPerson uses product licensing instead: consumers get their first avatar free, and apps integrate under commercial plans.
Can MetaHumans be used outside Unreal Engine?
Yes — since Epic’s 2025 licensing change MetaHumans may be used in Unity, Godot and other engines. In practice the tooling and rigs remain Unreal-centric, so getting them elsewhere is a manual, artist-driven export. MetaPerson avatars ship as standard GLB/FBX designed to load anywhere from the start.
Can MetaHuman create an avatar from a photo?
Not from a photo. MetaHumans are designed by hand in MetaHuman Creator, or built from a 3D scan via Mesh to MetaHuman. MetaPerson generates a recognizable avatar from one selfie in seconds — that’s the core difference.
Which is lighter for mobile and web?
MetaHuman rigs are cinematic-grade and heavy for real-time mobile or WebGL use. MetaPerson avatars are optimized for exactly those targets — mobile apps, web apps and cross-platform games.
Is there an API to generate MetaHumans?
No public generation API exists for MetaHuman. Avatar SDK offers a Cloud avatar API for programmatic, at-scale generation, plus an embeddable creator your users can operate themselves.
Lightweight avatars your users create themselves
Realistic or cartoon, full-body, from a single selfie — integrated into your app with an SDK and Cloud API.
